    Default Stuccota Board

Can someone give me some information on stuccato board?

In identifying in report would you select wood, fiber cement, or stucco?

What are some of the problems with this type of siding?

    Thanks

Well you have a couple of choices. Masonite makes it with a hardboard backing and James Hardie make it with a fiber cement backboard.

Most of the older stuff I have seen is the Masonite brand or hardboard type product. It has the same problems as most hardboard products. Puckering at edges and nail points.

What the product is made of is more important than what it looks like.

Just because a piece of "hardboard" siding or fiber cement siding has been manufactured to give a certain look does not significantly alter its base product performance characteristics.

If others are ultimately fooled by appearances then so be it...that is, after all, what the manufacturer had in mind when they created a product specifically to look like something it is not.

You as the professional inspector though should be able to tell your client that what looks like stucco up there is actually a *fill in the blank* product. And you should further have some concept of how that *fill in the blank* product performs.
