specs on stone to roof junction - InspectionNews

I don't often see this stone up high enough on the house to have an intersection with the roof. Does anyone know the specs? I'm pretty certain there is supposed to be a 2" gap like most other siding materials. I know what the builder did here was wrong... one seam is just caulked and the other looks like he came back and trimmed it with a chainsaw. Thanks!

The gap is so that the shingles can be replaced and water will not wick-up with absorbent materials. If the siding is sealed to the shingles, it is wrong. You do want a space between the shingles and the siding, I'm happy with an inch or two.

Be sure that they put flashing under the one that looks like it is sealed to the shingles. The other on has visible flashing and diverter flashing as it should.

Thanks Scott... I saw the kick-out flashing at the bottom so I guess it's same to assume it's in there the rest of the way up the seam. What you're seeing in the gap is actaully just the cut off stone. The picture is kind of fuzzy but I wasn't able to see any other flashing (except for the kick-out piece).

On the other seam I can't see any flashing at all.

Looks Like there may be flashing back there. Agree on the hold-back from the roof, but lots of builders (and buyers) hate the way it looks. BTW, I'd also want to take a close look at the kickouts to insure that they are actually getting water into the gutters.

That looks like "adhered stone" to me, not "masonry veneer", and that mortar bed behind the stone looks like it was applied to the wall and down *OVER* the shingles.

*Not good*.

I can see what look like the reflection of sun off a metal flashing along that edge - that would be a good indication of a good thing, but the other problem is still there.
