What is not okay is the siding in contact with the shingles.
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Just trim the wood siding off the cricket and shingles and it should be OK. I think the size is OK.

The cricket is as wide as the chimney. I would say that is wide enough. Do you think the cricket should be wider than the chimney?
