Default Damaged Ash Dump Cleanout Door

A client of mine has a damaged ash dump cleanout door on the firebox floor in a masonry wood burning fireplace. They attempted to get it replaced and are having no luck. Any idea what an accpetable workaround for something like this would be? I'm not trying to design a repair for them. Just trying to give some some possibilities if they can't get the item replaced.

The housing on the doors is warped and cracked and the doors will not close properly.

Find a metal fabricator. Shop time should be 4 hrs with angle iron - 1/4" or 1/8" steel plate. Just need to find some alittle creative.

Good that you take interest in client.

Place a 12x12 square of 1/4 sheet metal over the opening. I had a similar problem on a home I use to own and it worked well for many years.
