Got Another One
Two houses in a row with the same thing.....wood installed beneath the fireplace hearth at the top of the ash dump. This one however has charred wood.

now you know how I feel
I tell other inspectors to stick their camera in there, they shake their heads like i'm nuts.

I hear ya Wayne. I'll never let one of those fireplace ash dumps go by anymore without sticking my camera in there and seeing what shows.
