    Default white substance

I think the white substance around the damper/ on flue is from water coming in from the exterior, but what do you all think? any other possiblity? Or is it something that non consequential?

Looks like A Lot of Deferred Maintenance and would recommend a Sweep conduct a Level II Inspection before use.

This doesn't look like an indication of water intrusion. There are no signs of drip marks. Any water dripping down the inside of the flue through the damper would leave signs of puddling on the floor of the firebox.
