    Default bond/ground at gas regulator

i see this wire all the time at regulators, but not sure what its function is and why it is never connected to anything, unless it is under ground?

Jerome - I believe that is a tracer used for locating the gas pipe underground.

Correct John. Since the pipe is plastic, it's there for thr detector to pick up.

Yep. In fact, the way it is tapped for a new service is by clamping a 2 piece t to the pipe, making a hole in the pipe, and heating the clamp to form the bond.
