Small propane tank used for fireplace
Is this an issue? I definitely don't like the flexible plastic hose. I'm scouring the IRC (as if I can call out codes

Anyway, this propane line (black pipe) goes to a vent-free fireplace in the home. I think I know everyone's opinion on vent-free.

Re: Small propane tank used for fireplace
Hey, where's the photo? OK, standby...

OK, the photo won't load. It's a small 5 gal. propane tank with a rubber hose going to black pipe (thru the brick) to a ventless heater/fireplace.

Re: Small propane tank used for fireplace
NFPA 58 covers LP gas from the tank to the second stage regulator, which is the "point of delivery". Black rubber hoses are approved only for portable outdoor LP cooking equipment such as BBQ grilles. Once the gas leaves the second stage regulator, it must be in "piping", which is regulated by the applicable fuel gas code.

A 5 gallon LP tank is not suitable for use with anything much over 10 mbtu. Aside from the short burn time, such a small tank will not have the vaporization rate to meet the demand of most any gas utilization equipment other than a Bunsen burner. Even 100 lb tanks are considered small for most any appliances.
HTH,
Bob

Re: Small propane tank used for fireplace
I was hoping you would see my post. Thanks for the info. I had already written up the hose, but the whole setup was squirrely.
