This reminds me of the 1938 novel written by Arthur Koestler titled --- "The darkness at noon."

Rubashov, who was being tortured by an early version of KGB; there was a part where his captors were transporting him in a vehicle manufactured in the USA and a comment was made regarding the inferiority of American made vehicles. The retort was that American vehicle suspensions were not made as robust as the Communist equivalents because American roads were built better. ( I have experienced the Russian Llada and it is a durable machine )

In the novel the protagonist Rubashov, stubbed out a cigarette on his hand to show his captors ( who were often watching though peep holes ) that he was a tough dude and could withstand torture.

Well, yeah ... American vehicle suspensions are designed to provide a smooth ride, Russian vehicle suspensions are designed to cut down underbrush and level mud ridges.

Criminey, if you want a tank, buy a tank, don't buy a Ferrari.
