What Internet Search Engine Do You Use?
I still use Internet Explorer for the bulk of my internet usage. I think however that most people use Mozilla Firefox and the problem is that my website loads and appears differently with Firefox than with Explorer. I designed my site around Explorer but viewing my site through Firefox shifts things around and makes the fonts very small.
What search engine do most of you use?

Re: What Internet Search Engine Do You Use?
Nick,
Developing a website to accommodate both IE and Firefox and Opera and ... and ... is a real chore to say the least.
Most used browsers are IE and Firefox. A lot of effort has to be put into the website construction to make the site operate/look good in both browsers.
It's not a slam dunk.

Re: What Internet Search Engine Do You Use?
Most people that I know use Firefox. But, I may not be typical. Google Chrome might be making inroads.

Re: What Internet Search Engine Do You Use?
Hi everybody (because I am new here on this forum),
The statistics from Google Analytics for Montréal/Canada region.
% new visits
Google 75 %
Bing (IE) 24 %
Yahoo 1 %
More then 1 minute on the site
Google 42 %
Bing (IE) 28 %
Yahoo 0.5 %
So, Google brings me more clients than any other search engine; also Google send me more interested clients to read my website (more than 1 minute on the site).

Re: What Internet Search Engine Do You Use?
Just switched to Firefox 3.6......for my web browser....Love it. So far no problems and is very fast coming up and the from the get go has more immediate options than Google chrome that I have on my other computer.
Firefox searches with Google. I think the combo is great.

Re: What Internet Search Engine Do You Use?
Nolan,
I heard, years ago while creating my website, and I did it and it seemed to work ???? was inserting a check to see which browser was contacting the site and then directing the appropriate browser to the appropriate pages. That was back in the days of Netscape, AOL, and IE, and 'frames' and 'no frames', and all that stuff ... is that still done?
Seems it would solve the problems if the website page automatically directed the browser to the page made for that browser.

Re: What Internet Search Engine Do You Use?
I use Firefox on my desktop and IE on my work laptop. My website looks the same on both.
When I made my website I used Adobe GoLive CS2 which enables you to code the site for compatibility with the most popular browsers. Adobe Dreamweaver has now taken the place of GoLive and should do the same thing. The big trick now is enabling your site for mobile devices.
The last 170 visitors to my site:
50 27.78% Firefox 3.6
42 23.33% IE8.0
35 19.44% Firefox 3.5
29 16.11% IE 7.0
11 6.11% IE 6.0
3 1.67% Chrome 4.0
3 1.67% BlackBerry 0
3 1.67% Safari 4.0
2 1.11% Firefox 3.0
1 0.56% AOL 7.0
1 0.56% iPhone 0

Re: What Internet Search Engine Do You Use?
I use Firefox for my default browser and my home page is set to Google. About 70 percent of people searching my site also use Firefox. It is a good browser although it does sometimes crash but can be restored to your last page with all tabs.

Re: What Internet Search Engine Do You Use?
Joseph,
Your quoted stats from your ISP or where ever you are getting them are a bit confusing. They are not really telling you anything useful.
Mozilla is the old name for various versions of what is now FireFox which started out as Mozilla Netscape.
XP is a Microsoft Operating System, not a browser. It might mean IE.
Google Chrome is a newer player in the browser game that is getting good traction. I use a variety of it myself.
Many Mac users use Safari.
The browser you use to view it is what determines what ANY webpage will ultimately look like. As was posted, the site built to be viewed in Internet Explorer will look much different in Firefox and others. Possibly terrible.
A "good" site designer will build a site that is "optimized" to look good in any browser. Lazy or unskilled ones will build to view in only one and tough luck for the rest. That's a disservice to the site owner.
The question is "What Search Engine do you use?"
That could be one of dozens available. Google, Bing (Microsoft), AOL, Yahoo, Ask, and many more. There are many, many available. I've only mentioned the major players here. For good search results, target Google. A site that comes up on a search of the keywords you use on the first page of a Google has good "Google Juice" and will pull you business. I work to achieve that result and do so frequently. It's not a "static" thing that you do one time. It is constantly evolving and moving target.
My comments here in this forum are often found and linked back to my sites.
ALWAYS put links to your site when you leave comments, write an article, post a blog, in your email signatures, on your cards, on the side of your truck, your stationary if you have it and anywhere else it might be seen by someone looking for the service. Ya never know! I have a customer testimonial on my site from a customer that found my thermal Infrared business because he saw the site address on my vehicle driving down the freeway! Others find me via a search on certain keywords I have researched to be most used when looking for this type of service. These are always used in the titles and the first paragraph of any web promotion I do. Google Juice ROCKS!
Best,
