"Ok, Frank, hand me the wrench."" What, I thought you were bringing the wrench."
Are those thunder clouds I see there? Not a good place to be during a lightning storm.
An electrician buddy got the contract one time to change light bulbs on towers at the local airport. It wasn't worth it.

Re: Scared of Heights?
Nice video... but every weekend thousands of rock climbers do something similar, but far more difficult.

Re: Scared of Heights?
Well, got to say that you won't find this boy climbing tower, rocks, or having babies.
I've often said if it were up to men to have the babies, there would be only one kid per family.
I don't need to climb the tower or the rock even once.

Re: Scared of Heights?
On the other hand, that guy on the rock has sh*t for brains in my opinion. Why risk your life to say you climbed up the side of some rock. C'mon, seriously why take the risk? I'm sure you'll come back about the challenge crap or the feeling of achievement making to the top.
BS! I say. Have to explain to this guy's family on how he fell and busted his head and his brains were scattered a mile out. Tell his loved ones that and see if they agree with you, "Oh he just loved to scale rocks."

Re: Scared of Heights?
Well
The guys on the tower are getting paid. I seriously doubt it is enough for that kind of risk.
The guy on the rocks is not getting paid. I believe his problem is he is trying to overcome both heads being to small.

Re: Scared of Heights?
Ted,
Your right. If it was that exciting to scale that rock I wouldn't be able to snug up against that rock as such.

Re: Scared of Heights?
These guys should do base jumping Take the fast way down...
I like the little platform with the light on top the first guy gets on top you can see he is very comfortable standing on top it look like he let go (no hands) then you see him hook up then the second guy just climbs up and get on top of that little plate with the light I would be saying just stay there theirs not enough room for you up hear Stop shaking everything What the ^#%* Do you think you doing... And on and on and on... L.O.L.

Re: Scared of Heights?
Just watched the video again.
1700 feet above the earth
counting on each one of those little steel rungs to still be securely welded in place. I do not think I want to be the tester that everything you grab is still secure. Climbing a rock face tied off pales to this nightmare. Once to the top of the tower you are free climbing. Every hand hold is your life line. You are not tied off all the way to the top once leaving that tower.
And that is how to climb to the top of a transmission tower.....NOW YOU HAVE TO DO IT ALL AGAIN....BACKWARDS to get down. Standing on the absolute top holding on with one hand. Now you have to bend over to work.

Re: Scared of Heights?
It's only 150 ft of climbing - they take an elevator up to about 1600 ft.

Re: Scared of Heights?
I've been mountain climbing - as long as you're not an idiot it's challenging but pretty safe. Now I stick to climbing gym walls.
From 1750 ft it takes about 15-20 seconds to reach the ground depending on the person and how fast or slow they're trying make the process.

I am glad that I am too fat for that job. So they only had to climb the last 150 ft? Hell, for minute there I thought they were doing something.
