From an engineering point of view, I think cantilevers are pretty cool. Here in MN we have the Guthrie Theatre which has a cantilever of 178' which I believe at the time of construction was the largest/longest known cantilever. It's design allows occupancy of 1000 people.

Man, I bet there is some serious earth work back up under the main part to handle that uplift load! Maybe the main part of the house is made of hollowed out granite as ballast.

We have some mobile homes around here that look real similar. Now I'm thinking they did it on purpose!
