Re: How many vets in here?
Grew up in the Detroit, Mi. area. Joined the US Army voluntarily in 1966 and served until 1969.
After basic and advanced training I was assigned to a small army/civilian base in the Detroit area.
My duty assignment from 1966 to 1967 was to head the "Survivors Assistance Program". We were responsible for notifying mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters that their son, daughter, mother or father had given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. They were, KIA or MIA, killed or were missing in action.
For what its worth, my opinion at the time was, our involvement in Vietnam was bullshit, a tremendous loss of life, for what? Absolutely nothing. My opinion now after 40+ years, again for what its worth, our involvement was bullshit. For what? Absolutely nothing.
I am proud to have served. I met a lot of good people during my service that went home in a box. War sucks. Sometimes its necessary...it still sucks.
