Thread: Owner of InspectionNews Needs Help...LAST DAY TO HELP!

Help me reach a goal to get 75 names on this list. Today is the last day to do it!



To all my InspectionNews members and friends I am asking for some help. Help that will surly benefit you, a relative or a friend some day.

I am participating in the Relay For Life by they American Cancer Society on July 30th.

You don't need many reasons to get involved because statistically a loved one, a friend or even you will get cancer at some point in your lives. Help find a cure by getting involved and/or donating today.

I am participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life because I want to make a meaningful difference in the fight against cancer.

It's personal to me as:

• My father died from cancer when I was 5
• My mother is a 2 time survivor
• One aunt is a survivor
• One uncle is a survivor
• One aunt is fighting
• One friend is fighting
• Most friends have a similar story with family or friends that have or have had cancer

I know times our tough but every donation is helpful and important.

C'mon guys. All the stuff Brian does for you and you can't help him out with a 5 or 10 dollar donation to his cancer cause.

He oughta have thousands in his name now, not just a couple of hundred.

Keep up the fundraising, Brian! You'll get there! I once had to raise $2800 for a Leukemia Society Team in Training marathon. I'd never run a marathon before and thought that would be the hard part. It was equal strain on the training and strain on the fundraising. But I was simply amazed at what folks kicked in when I asked. Friends of mine from grad school who I knew didn't have two dimes to rub together would send me $20.

I found the direct appeal to my Christmas Card list (this was in the days before e-mail was everywhere) did the best. I tried a yard sale of donated items and only made a couple hundred dollars (after weeks of headaches in collecting and pricing crap, not to mention setting up a location and doing the actual sale). The quickest money I made was a bake sale at work where folks made and donated desserts and then people stopped by and gave a donation to eat. Made $300 in 20 minutes! My company also had a "casual Friday" for me where folks could donate $1 to go business casual on Friday. This was when I was in banking and when banking was still suits and ties all week long.

It was a great experience (both the training and the fund raising). I've never run another marathon, but I know I could do it again if I wanted to (and it's been 14 years).

What caught my eye was the number of frequent I.N. posters who are not on the list.

Well, here is the final update to this thread.... I think.

I want those who contributed to know that I am not just saying "Thank You", the "Thank You" is truly coming from my heart.

There were many tears shed this weekend. At the top of this thread I had listed those in my family who had passed away, those who have survived and those who are currently fighting cancer. I just found out yesterday that one of the fighters, my Aunt, has found out that the cancer has spread from her lungs and other organs up to her brain. Not a good sign at all.

In one week all of you listed below helped me raise $4,250.00 to help fight cancer. That was 4x more than that of the second highest fund raiser!

On Saturday morning I was lucky enough to be able to walk 2 miles with my mother, a 2 time cancer survivor.



My wife Susan and I returned to walk a few miles Saturday evening for the candle lit ceremony and I returned at 5am on Sunday to walk for 4.5 hours for a total of 11.25 miles.

It was a happy sad event with much joy to be able to walk with my mom and many tears shed thinking about my Aunt.
