Re: dirty dirty house
Charlie,
It is not the house it is the people living there.
You can not blame the house no mater its age.

Re: dirty dirty house
The filth that people create and live in can be astounding and sometimes even unsafe for inspectors to be in.

Re: dirty dirty house
The truly scary part about filthy homes is knowing the owner(s) may well be working as line cooks at your favorite restaurant.
I did a DHS site review at an older home in southern Oregon last year. The 2 female "room-mates" (can I call them lezzies?) who lived there had junk and garbage piled everywhere, from the floors to almost ceiling level. The stench of cat crap/pee was enough to make me gag. I counted 4 of the things wandering around, and a quick walk through the yard resulted in a bunch of their fleas jumping onto my pants legs.

Re: dirty dirty house
Think about the sweet little old lady and her contribution to the church pot luck dinner. Most wouldn't think twice about eating her green bean casserole. Doing HQS inspections, I see numerous units that are absolutely filthy. If you met many of these people outside of their homes, you would never think that they would live like that. This is why I do not participate in pot luck meals.

Re: dirty dirty house
I have been in a hoarder's home, one dog lady and one cat lady home. The filth was easy to picture, the smell however, is something that you just have to be there. Numerous pig sties that make you wash your hands and nose lining upon leaving.
And then there was the meth home............filth and destruction combined for visual and olfactory stimulation unmatched for me.
