    Default Look Mom no mortar

Our local town square has just been completed and this is one of the features.

It will be interesting to see how long it will take for some village idiot to vandalize it. Hopefully that won't happen.

The masons used a large round bail of hay for the form.

That is sweet. Of course, a masonry adhesive or something has to be used in there somewhere or ... Boom.

I'm not seeing much of a town or a square. Was that a joke? The arch is cool though. Maybe if you build it, they will come.

The town square is a work in progress. We built perimeter walls around the square, all dry laid.
There is a cedar stage and other marker stones incorporated into the stone wall.

The hole is called a 'Moon gate'.

Looks like you need "firewater" and a beard to do good work like that!! Amazing fit of stones.

Yes it really is a work of art.

The chap with the beard and bottle is the mason who does a lot of stone work for the Queen at Balmoral castle fwiw.

Yes but they are all low in scale. The last one Tuesday, at 1:53 p.m, Mother Nature showed up 9 miles outside of Mineral, Va., and ripped a 5.8 magnitude fart.

The photo indicates the extent of the damage.

Have felt numerous small earth quakes up here over the years.

Dry stone walls won't crack in frost heaves, often will last longer than mortared walls.
