Beguiled By Jerry Peck
Ladies and gentlemen, men and women, inspectors all hear my cry. JERRY PECK IS NOT A HOME INSPECTOR that's right JERRY PECK IS NOT A HOME INSPECTOR. Jerry is a Construction / Litigation Consultant
Construction Litigation Consultants, LLC ( Construction and Litigation Consultants )
EastWestData (EastWest Data ) I could not for the life of me figure out why he was so damn good at all the stuff he writes on the posts. He is a licensed professional consultant. That is why he has to be so perfect in all he writes, because he is bound by all his knowledge, he cannot relax and do just a home inspection because he can be sued because of his knowledge. Nothing that Jerry writes in these post relates to home inspections because we ( Home Inspectors) are generalist. He could not even testify in court in a home inspection case because he is bound by his knowledge and has to go beyond what a normal home inspector does. Jerry DOES NOT DO NORMAL HOME INSPECTIONS. As generalist no wonder 300 people can read a post by Jerry and feel inadequate and not post a responce. That is why he spends so much time on a inspection and prices his so high because he is bound by his superior knowledge. Inspectors please don't sit back any more reading post by Jerry thinking you not doing your job because he does NOT DO HOME INSPECTIONS. We have a swan in our mists, although he is pretty he is not a duck.

Sure, he is a consultant..... doesn't mean we can't strive to be the best inspector's possible.

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
I'm curious as to the point of this thread as just outwardly bashing a person seems a bit trivial and off-topic.
In the interest of educating some of the newer or less frequent visitors here I would offer the following opinion/experience:
When initially coming to this board a couple years ago I was very put off by JP's habit of controlling numerous threads and always having to be the one with the right answer. Over the years I've realized that he's correct on technical stuff... pretty much ALWAYS and he spends countless hours sharing what he's learned for FREE.
Still, I can't say I always agree with JP's way of approaching a given subject or topic but I read his posts carefully and gain A LOT of very useful knowledge from them.
And the residual value JP offers this board is invaluable. He sparks people to think things through, debate and argue far more than would ever take place if he weren't here.
So, the good news is JP will be here long after the periodic sideline stone thrower has gone away. As will the rest of us.
Hopefully, the real estate market will rebound quickly so we can all get busy inspecting homes again.
cheers

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
I am pretty sure he could testify in a home inspection case, as an expert witness.
This board, & therefore Jerry, help to make me a better inspector, & I appreciate that.

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
Yoo!
You remind me of another person who spouts off who is a thorn in my side!
Appreciate what JP is doing for you, and stop with the lousy bashing, I would be right behind him, and although JP and I disagree sometimes, just remember he is always trying to help.
I would challenge you, or anyone else to ask him to tag along on an inspection you made, and take on bets as to how much you missed!
I always appreciate the replies made by others who are consultants, and although I too am not a home inspector, would lay odds that my over 40 years in the electrical industry would be of some value to any home inspector, give me a try and say thank you instead!

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
What a hoot I got out of this one.
Minimalist Tony strikes back.
Let's see, I can read Tony the minimalists stuff about the "dangers" of doing more than the very bare minimum or I can read Jerry's stuff.
Hmmm, What a hard decision that is!
What am I going to do?
For those who haven't been around very long, Jerry WAS a home inspector, albeit a very high priced home inspector, but a home inspector none the less.

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
Personally I think someone is impersonating Tony.
Being that Tony is from Oklahoma, you just don't hear those folks using words like " Beguiled". Just not part of their vocabulary.
You must also consider there is not many spelling errors with the exception of "responce". Evidence more of a ghost writer.
And look at the last comment about a "swan in our mists".
Definately not Oklahomian verbiage.

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
HA HA HA HA!!!! You're too much Tony. Beguiled??? I don't think I've ever used that word in my life. Do you use it on your inspection reports? I'd love to hear an example.
"The furnace was beguiled"
"Beguilded wires noted inside the service panel"
"Beguiling noted on the roof rafters in the attic"
Is this how you use it Tony?

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
few clowns short of a circus?????????
now thats hillarious, lmao
I find it very unprofessional to attack someone, anyone, in this forum in such a childish manor. Over the last several years jerry and I have disagreed on a few points, and have agreed on many others. But in the end, we have always remained professional and respected each others opinions in the interest of providing varying veiws / reasons for the benefit of the rest of the board.
If you find it impossible to show the same respect for everyone on this board, may I suggest an alternative board, such as the bellleveiw alumnus group.

I can see that all who posted has learned something new, not to mention the 240 something that has not posted. That's what we are here for. As for childish and very unprofessional to attack someone, anyone, that is the little people that write stuff about diamond rings, I' am a big boy. There is nothing untruthful in any thing I have written just learning information.

What! Jerry's a consultant? Dang it, now I gotta go back and *D*E*L*E*T*E* a whole lot of information I've collected over the years that's made me an "ahem" better inspector. Either that or delete this thread which is pretty much childish in nature. Think I'll go for the later, I kinda like getting better at my profession.

Tony Mount has serious character flaws! Tony - please get help!
Jery Peck is an unselfish professional that has shared countless facts about the building industry codes and standards, and shared many personal experiences with us. I believe Jerry has made all of us us better inspectors, has raised our standards, and adds credibility to our profession. Thank You Jerry!!

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
The statement you quoted is true, Jerry has given us "countless facts" but has also given us his opinions.
When it comes to Tony, I have read some of the threads directed towards Jerry and he reminds me of a high school bully. Somebody does something that he doesn't like and he has to go on the attack doing what ever he can to make that persons life miserable just because he can. If this is true, then he is an immature a$$hole and needs to grow up (which is unlikely).

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
Mr. Mount’s attack on Jerry Peck reminds me of that old movie comedy, “The Mouse That Roared.” Tony is amusing at best and pathetic at worst and some how I pity the poor fellow. Just goes to show how envy can result in delusional behavior.

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
As many above have already responded, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK east coast Jerry. I have always supported the notion that a Home Inspector should "know much more than they may report". The man dedicates his time and expertise to this forum and makes all of us better for it.
Also we should not be getting into personal attacks in this forum!!! You may show a bad side of your nature that could be picked up by the public on a google search for instance. It makes us all look unprofessional. Take the high road.

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
well, theres a revolution in the air maybe...this site may be called "Generalist News"
Mr. Mount,
I have a confession to make, I too am not a home inspector but get paid to consult and litigate and unfortunatley I have done two cases recently against home inspectors, er I mean generalist inspectors. Some how these generalist were real good at plumbing and electric but sucked at obvious dissimilar materials on the facade which leaked during the hurricane here in August.
Knowledge is wealth and when you pass your self off as and expert, your up for bulls eyes shots,be it in the field, on a post or in a courtroom. When people search on line for information, are they inadiquate? or trying to better themselves on a topic? Myself, I have learned a lot about electric on this site and to use spell check before posting, from JP and others who have argued and proved their points...I hope I contributed to the specilties I am licensed at as much as others who take the time to post a picture and do not feel indiquate to ask WHY?
your down to 239 more opinions to go, keep it up!!

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
A few weeks ago one of the sometimes more "opinionated" posters here joined me at a water intrusion inspection, and pointed out a possibility (drifted-snow and ice backup at the scuppers due to roof design, which was likely speeding deterioration at a parapet wall) that left me thinking "How the hell did I miss THAT?"... as well as a number of other minor issues where I was not fully "connecting the dots".
And if this inspector and "consultant" - or any one of several such posters here - are ever the expert witness on the other side of litigation over something I've done (or not) at a reasonably complicated inspection, I'm probably sunk. - because it's *likely* that second set of experienced eyes will catch *something* I did not.
So I read comments by such posters *very* carefully to improve the chances I never get there, and I'm *very* glad they are here in the meantime.
And I can *easily* handle a little occasional "arrogance" - or even just "self-certainty" - if that's the price of knowledge.

Re: Beguiled By Jerry Peck
Even in Canada we know Jerry is a character, seriously think how boring these postings would be with out him. think about all the good he has done and points he has made the good the bad and the ugly...lol he has made us laugh and cry and curse him but when the cows come home I still respect him. you don't have to be a licence inspector to know more than one but you do have to have a passion like he does to post as much as he does. Jerry honours us with his wisdom and character, and ya we need him here so the rest of us can learn, disagree and argue with him and in the end be able to say hell ya he really is a character but one worthwhile having here!!! jmho
Keep on rockin Jerry!! opps beguiling us all cause when we don't agree we WILL let you know lol game on...
