Anybody Playing the Stock Market?
If so, whats your favorite stock?

I've been in and out, but I think there are some good opportunities out there right now.

I can remember day trading several years ago. Had the ticker going on the TV all day back then.

Re: Anybody Playing the Stock Market?
I shudder at the thought of day-trading.

My favorite stock at the moment is STP, a Chinese company that makes photo voltaic equipment, mainly because it's up 86% since I bought it in May.

One that I think is ready to take off is ABEW, airbee wireless.
One I wish would go public is Nanosolar - Home Page

Rick,

You might want to think about what the folks in Rushing's neck of the woods are doing.

Hot tips on message boards are worth what you pay for them, but check out APPL. Between the ipod, iphone and the new operating system they appear to be on a roll.

Re: Anybody Playing the Stock Market?
Years ago I was playing the stock market.

I think I made $40,000, then lost $30,000, then made $25,000, then lost $40,000 ... as I recall I came out about $5,000 poorer than when I went in.

Re: Anybody Playing the Stock Market?
Rick,

Sorry for the delay. I don't get on the boards very often.

I didn't have the guts for GOOG, but APPL has been great.

I just pulled the trigger on some RIMM. From what I read the Crackberry is still going strong.

Bruce,

Appl has been great hasn't it?

Goog has been even better to me.

I've always played the tech stocks and some meds.

Re: Anybody Playing the Stock Market?
Tech stocks are not for the faint of heart - or the elderly.

My 87 YO mother retired from 35 years with the phone company, using the stock buying options all the while. She had what i would consider an impressive portfolio. However, It was ALL tech stocks, AND she was emotionally tied to them. BAD all the way around.

When they started to go south a few years ago it was all my sister and I could do to get her to get rid of just "some" of them. We were able to move some of them into something that would be better suited for someone of her age. But in a very short time, her portfolio dropped a couple hundred G's.

I have my 19 yo in some tech funds (i'm more comfortable with mutual funds), but she's 19 and can wait out just about anything.

It's really funny how my mothers pacific bell stock split and split and split, and folded into new companies until she had probably 20 companies in her portfolio, ALL from pacific bell stock. She had at one time 2500 shares of vodafone and during the good times was going for about $50/share. I have no idea where it is now, and we dumped a pile of it.

I follow Dave Ramsey's advice, and invest in mutual funds and split them over various categories and various companies. On a side note, I bought some Janus Overseas fund a while back and have been very pleased with it's performance. Microsoft and Starbucks has not been all that great even though I thought it should be, but I just can't bring myself to dump it.
