    Default Rusty ground air ducts

We are selling our home and noticed that some of our ducts are rusted. Will we have to re-route the ducts through the ceiling to get it to pass inspection or is there another inexpensive fix to this issue? Thanks!

DH: Where are they located, in the attic or a crawl space? How badly are they rusted? Do they have holes in them? Pictures?

More likely than not, yes the ducts will need to be re-routed.

More likely than not, no there is not an inexpensive fix for this ... well, depends on what you consider "expensive" and "inexpensive" I guess.

First, though, Aaron's questions about access and the duct's locations need to be addressed.

I will take pictures and will try to post asap. The ducts are in the foundation. I have no crawl space. I'm pretty sure that some have holes where rust has rusted through. I've heard that I could "patch them" but not sure how or if this would pass inspection if I did so. Thanks!

That's what I was presuming with my answer.

The old ducts in the slab trick huh. Isn't that how a family died when a pest control guy drilled down and treated for termites but actually loaded the ducts up .

Bad story. I never did find the write up on that but it did happen.

I've heard of that too. Yes, I believe it really did happen.
