Suicide Vent
The elderly lady at the home I inspected Saturday kept mentioning how she thought her family was trying to get rid of her. I thought she meant like sending her off to a nursing home till I seen this. Yikes!
Bruce's comment below is correct. This thread should have been titled Attempted Homicide Vent
It just I can't edit the title now.

Any idea how long that has been like that?

I ran across this while doing a FEMA disaster inspection after Katrina. The water heater was located in the family room. I advised the elderly owner to call a plumber and have the WH vent repaired immediately.

Thats why they have those big 500 count bottles of Advil or Tylenol around.
