Re: swamp cooler installed in garage venting to kitchen
I've seen it once. No way is it allowed. Not only is it a major break in the fire separation, but it can easily pull CO from a car exhaust into the house. Any gas appliances in the garage will have big time back drafting issues, if there are any. The one I saw also had a water heater in the same garage. You could feel the air whistling down the water heater vent pipe and into the garage when it was on.

I've seen it here and agree with the fact that you loose your fire separation. Also if there is a water heater in the garage you might be able to back draft it.
