It's unfortunate that this happened to this poor gal, but she should also learn from this experience that a visual inspection doesn't include what's behind the walls or between the floor and ceilings.

what the F does he mean??

" She could've hired her own home inspector, but know this: home inspectors are not regulated. They don't need an engineering background and they don't need to pass any sort of tests."

Not every state is like that, but he makes it seem so.

what ... did she allow the Realtor to pick an inspector for her??

afterwards....

"Kim hired a company to clean up the mold, and she hired her own home inspector. "

She should have done that in the first place.
this is the kind of thing that gives us a bad name,

Perhaps if more stories like this got out more people would stop shopping for inspectors based on fees only.

Used a friend for a Realtor. Mistake 1
Didn't choose her own Inspector. Mistake 2
Hired a mold "expert" Mistake 3 (unless it was a microbiologist or environmental engineer)ority of the $45K went?
He told her to move out. What a surprise! Might I guess that the comapny inspecting also did remediation? And might I guess at where the majority of the $45K went?

Amen.

Re: Call Kurtis: Home Inspection Nightmare - CBS 13
Some people have to learn things the hard way. Things like:

Employ the services of a GOOD real estate agent, not a friend. (They are out there but you have to look hard to find them.)

Hire the best home inspector you can find, not the one your real estate agent (aka, friend) recommends.

Do not try to save money by hiring a cheaper home inspector.

If this poor homebuyer had employed a competent real estate agent (rather than a licensed door opener) and had hired a good home inspector (for perhaps $50 or $100 more than the one recommended by her agent/friend) she could have saved herself $45,000+.

Lessons that are learned the best are the ones that cost the most.
