Question Liability, E&O Insurance anyone know ???

    Hi, I'm Kelly,

I am somewhat new, but not really. I graduated last year, but has been an up hill battle to begin doing Inspections. I knew it was going to be difficult to begin, But, I didn't think I was going to not be doing any...

Does anyone know where I could get Liability Insurance? Ok, What about E & O's ???

    Also,

Do I really need to use a 35mm Camera??? Or can it be something cheaper?

Thanks in advance for who ever reads and reply's. I really look forward to getting help in this site, not only with questions from Inspections, but questions in general... thanks guys....

    Kelly

Can't help with the insurance question as I am covered under my husband's existing liability and E&O (he's an inspector as well).

For a camera, you just need a good digital, at least 12 megapixel, and preferably water resistant or waterproof. A point and shoot works fine, as long as you can set it for macro shots (to get those pictures of double taps in service panels) and it takes good low-light pictures (for those dim attics and basements).

    Hi,

Thank you for you reply. How long have you and your husband been doing Inspections for?

I can't wait. I did a few "Hey, I have some concerns...can you come and have a look at ...for me?" The old do you friend a favor type deal...but I am looking forward to having a successful career while keeping in mind the reality of the world and the economy. In my area, currently this year alone, sales have grown by 33%, that's is huge.

    Talk to you again sometime...

    Kelly.

    Kelly,
My husband Bob has been doing inspections since 2003. I joined the company in 2010 as an office/marketing person, then took the training last fall and got my license in December 2011. I've done three inspections so far (with Bob there to make sure I'm not missing anything) and hope to do at least 25 this year.
Getting started is damned tough. The only thing you can do is work constantly at getting your name out there. Have good signage on your car. Have a good website. Price yourself competitively. Have a uniform and wear it everywhere; you want people to ask you about your business. Find your marketing niche and focus on that; what sets you apart from other inspectors?
    Good luck!

    Kelly,

If you are looking for only a Commercial General Liability policy, I would contact a local, independent insurance agency in your area. On average for $1,000,000 in coverage you would be looking at spending $500.00.

As for E&O, there are quite a few places you can get a quote from. I would look on this site for the list of E&O providers and give them a call. They should be able to give you a ball park figure on the phone and with the completion of an application, give you a firm price.

Just make sure to ask questions about what is excluded. If the price seems really, really good, there is normally a reason.
