Re: new business planning Do's and don't
Welcome to the fourm. You may have noticed there are multiple sub-forums sorted by topic.
Recommend you go to the forum about Business Operations and read everything there first. Lots of information about how to run a HI business. Then post specific questions about your particular needs.
If we were to post how to run a business in the introduction forum, others would not be able to find all the wonderful ideas we shared with you.

Re: new business planning Do's and don't
Do - read previous threads about business operation.
Do - get more training than you think you need.
Don't - do an inspection until you have done at least 5 practice inspections on friends houses.
Don't be afraid to tell a client that you don't know something, or need to do a little research.

Re: new business planning Do's and don't
+1 to what Jack said except I think he meant to say Don't do a for pay inspection until you have done 5 practice inspections.
Find a mentor to help you with your business and hopefully they can help with the inspection side of things.
Never deliver a written report onsite. In the beginning sleep on them and deliver the next day.
Invest wisely in your reporting software. This is the product the client will have long after they have forgotten your name.
