Default Former Home Renovation Contractor Turning to Home Inspection Services

Hello all, I am a former Renovations Contractor looking to branch out into home inspections. I am looking for any advice from the seasoned professionals, especially in regards to what software everyone prefers for their reports. Also, and advice on drumming up business with real estate agents/offices. I realize it is going to take a fair amount of time and investment on my part to be a successful business, and plan on doing the small renovations and handyman type work as I build up my brand.

There seem to be so many different Certification Programs, as well as software choices, so any help that you all could provide me would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Keith

    Hey Keith,

    Happy holidays and welcome!

I can speak mostly on establishing relationships with new realtors (I was one for 7 years). Some inspectors have success doing office presentations, some hit open houses, and some go with direct email and/or connecting online. I think a combination of all the above would give you a chance to see what yields the best results.

I personally tried new inspectors when I was emailed with a very professional, direct, honest value proposition. Then if their site and/or reviews were decent, I was willing to try them out.

As far as software, try a bunch out via free trials and see what provides the most value and is easiest to use!

That previous post was from 4 years ago - I just did a quick Google search and found this on refinishing bamboo floors (while it is also old, you may find useful information in it):
