Gas meter in relations to A/C
Hey Guys. New to this InspectorNews. I had a new construction inspection & one of the A/C compressors was off the pad. I asked why. Builder Supr. said something about it being too close to the gas meter. I looked thru ICC book, didn't see any info. regarding distances. Is there such a code??

Re: Gas meter in relations to A/C
National Fuel Gas Code 54-5.7.2.3 “Gas meters shall be located at least 3 ft. from sources of ignition.” Ignition is considered anything that can ignite gas, such as electric motors, switches, outlets and most exhaust/vent terminations such as furnace and/or dryer vent. 3 foot clearance also applies to windows that can be opened and/or crawlspace vents.

I measure from the gas port on the gas regulator

Re: Gas meter in relations to A/C
Thanks Kevin. I had heard of 3 to 5 feet but didn't have anything to back it up. Thanks again!
