FREE home inspector training
Normally, I do not post on the board, but is something that I know is important to ALL home inspectors. Especially, it is important to those who are training or considering training to become a professional home inspector.
FREE home inspection training. 17,000 pages of home inspector training is available at no charge, no obligation, no registration, no nothing. Just FREE.
More than that, it is better training than you could get anywhere else, even if you spent thousands of dollars. Take a look at it and tell me what you think.
BTW it works perfectly in IE-6 or newer, but not-so-good in other browsers like Firefox.
You can access the training at the following link:
About Field trainers at Phii.com - Our mission is to provide certificated, standardized, education to the home inspection field
or just go to PHII.com and follow the links to the training.
NOTE to Brian: As you can see this is a major shift in direction for our industry. I would hope that you are not offended by my posting this information. I'm just weary of having under-prepared people and the damage that it causes to the profession. I hope you can see my point and support me in telling everyone about this.

Mike
Checked out your web link and somehow I'm missing the "free" part?
Looks like any one of dozens of info commercials.

Re: FREE home inspector training
Perhaps you failed to click on the link (blinking box) that is located right smack in the middle of the page. That link will take you to the manual.
The only reason that I did not put up the direct link to the manual is that I wanted the visitor to have some context about why it is FREE.
If you think this is an infomercial, you need to look again.
Thanks for the comment.

Re: FREE home inspector training
Mike,
Interesting site. I only looked at one page of one section (and photo), so I really don't have a feel for the entire program.
But from what I saw on that one page, I think you have a pretty good product there. Nice work.

Re: FREE home inspector training
Good information except the statement found in the "house detective section"
under the two-pass method section just after the intro.
link to the problem section:
Field Training Manual - Student Edition
quote from the text:
While the second passes are more intense and absolutely necessary, it is a rare circumstance when major problems are detected that were not identified during the initial pass. The bulk of discoveries from the second pass tend to concern the more minor problems.
The above statement is pure BS, the attic, electrical and crawlspace are done during the second pass!
added with edit: the second pass being defined as the one in the PHII document, not yours or my inspection processes.

I would not call it BS, it is just different than the way you might inspect a home. We all inspect homes differently. The crawlspace is usually the last thing I inspect. The attic is one of the first things I inspect.

Re: FREE home inspector training
Scott,
I was not referring to yours or my process.
I was commenting on the PHII process in the document and the incorrect statement they make concerning what to expect while using their own information/process.

Re: FREE home inspector training
Bruce:
I have read your concerns and must admit that the statement should have been both clearer and more encompassing. I'll get that fixed.
If anyone has issues/corrections that need to be addressed, please post them here or at the phii.com Discussion Forum.
We welcome comments from all readers. We are trying our best to improve the knowledge base of all those who work within the home inspection field.
So, that is one correction on one of the 17,000 pages. Only 16,999 +/- more to go.
Thanks

Re: FREE home inspector training
I almost forgot to tell everyone that we have now fixed the Browser problem with Firefox, Mozilla, etc. (we think)
If anyone continues to experience problems when accessing the material, please let me know right away.
Thanks

Re: FREE home inspector training
Hi & thanks for the post. I have been considering becoming a Home Inspector for a little while now, but have been discouraged by the huge cost. I currently do insurance inspections, but wouldn't mind making the $$ that HI's make. I understand, by the little I've read so far, that it is greatly involved. I am going to make my way through this manual with many thanks to Mike, and then be able to make a better decision as to whether this is something for me. Thanks again for posting this manual

Hi Kirk,
You are in a licensed state. You need to check what is required in your state to become a home inspector. You might find that you have to take a formal class and an exam before you can become a home inspector in your state. This link might help CHAPTER 146 OF THE ACTS OF 1999

Thanks for the link . . . whew, quite a bit to get through there. Between the manual and this article, it'll make a great retirement job.

Re: FREE home inspector training
Wouldn't mind making the $ we make?
I wouldn't mind making the money we make.
I was asked the other day by a fellow wanting to get in the business what he needed to do. I told him to have a wife with a steady job first.
Second, get a handle on real overhead.
Third, move to another town.
