Re: IL Radon Mitigator License Application
Hi Scott, with the Il application you need to submit a quality assurance plan and standard operating procedures. They give you an example to work off of for the qap. The sop's I really do not know how much information to give or exactly how to write it.You can go to Welcome to IEMA and click on radon to see the sample qap. Thank you for your reply and I hope to hear from you again

HI Brett,
The SoP's are developed by you, they include your quality control procedures, and spells out just what you do. You will also need to track exposure to radon, times, dates, locations, etc.
This should have been covered in your mitigation class. Not to be blunt, but if you do not know this information I don't think you are ready to open a mitigation business.
Contact the training school that you attended, they should be able to walk you through some of it. Also you need to join NEHA/NRRP National Radon Proficiency Program You might find some information on their site that can help you. Also I just glanced at the booklet for IL and it spells out what you need to do fairly well http://iema.illinois.gov/radon/pdf/radonqaguidance.pdf
Sorry that I can't help you very much on this, but this is something that you need to discover and develop pretty much on your own.

Re: IL Radon Mitigator License Application
Brett,
NEHA (National Environmental Health Association) has SOP and QA templates that you can buy. It is cheaper if you are a member.

Re: IL Radon Mitigator License Application
Brett,
Follow the QA guide and develop your QA program for your bussiness (do each bullet in the guide) and remember you have to live to this QA document so only put what you will actually execute for QA. This is necessary since IEMA will audit you after six months and then when required.
Also, do your SOP for each portion of your mitigation activity. Remember it is better to have many small MOP's that can be modified easily then one large one. Best adivce for this is go through the Illinois Mitigtion standards (32 Ill. Adm. Code 422) and complete a section for each area you will do when you do mitigation. I.E suction point, sealing Sump pit, Vent stack etc...
Most people spend a lot of time developing their own QA and SOP and usually are not willing to share. You might want to ask your field instructor for advice or Joe at the UIC if you took their training.
Also if you get a copy of AARST QA and SOP remember they either the old EPA Mitigations standards or the new ASTM2121 which are good but they maybe a little different from IL standards.
MW-AARST will be having a fall meeting in Bloomington IL in early November let me know if you want info on the Hotel and meeting. It is the day before Radon ED day at Illinois State University.
Good Luck,
Paul Ybarra

Re: IL Radon Mitigator License Application
Thanks Paul, I think the QAP should not be much of a problem. I was really worried about the SOG'S. I will take your advice and do alot of small ones that can be changed as needed.
