TAREI Seminar / San Antonio
TAREI seminar is being held in San Antonio on April 11 & 12th.
Anyone on board plan on being there?
I've got to go to get those CEU's.

Re: TAREI Seminar / San Antonio
Nope, I made the trip to Sugarland earlier this year.
After one more 8 hour course on the Inspectit report program, I'm good on hours.
Do you know if they still have the seminar put on at UTA?
I have not gotten any info from the folks that put it on in several years, but it was some of the best CE information I have been to, I signed up for the entire week several times even though at the time 8 hours was all that was required.
That was where I first heard of Dr, Joe L. of buildingscience.com
Seems like it was the "Building Professionals Institue... " or something like that. It had Fire Marshals, Code enforcement, engineers, etc. with several hundred in attendance.

Re: TAREI Seminar / San Antonio
No that does not look familiar, Nolan.
I did a little digging and found some old literature:
Building Professional Institute,
put on by the Building Officials Association of Texas and the Construction Research Center. The information I found was from 2003 which was the May 12-16, 2003, Th annual BPI and had a email contact on the literature of crc@omega.uta.edu
Construction Research Center I just found this link doing a search which had this information:
The major annual continuing education program is the Building Professional Institute, held each May on the UTA campus. The week long program, conducted in conjunction with the Building Officials Association of Texas, provides 80 plus topical presentations in twelve track areas including: Management and Administration, International Building Code,Southern Building Code, Uniform Building Code, etc., The Building Professional Institute provides approved continuing education courses for AIA architects, real estate inspectors, insurance adjusters, and engineers. Refer to the CRC Educational Activities Building Professional Institute for information on the Th BPI, scheduled for May 19 - 23, 2008.
Some of the classes when I attended in the past were a little boring and elementary, but others were fantastic. Of course, I tend to take the classes that are a little off the beaten path, and there was a large offering of coursed spread out over the entire week. It was well worth the effort to attend.

Re: TAREI Seminar / San Antonio
The biggest problem I see with the UTA group is that the program is or at least was run by one of the honchos in the Greater Dallas Homebuilders Association. He is also the AHJ for one of the local suburbs. From the looks of the housing stock where he holds court the classes can't be all that good. The other problem is that it is held on weekdays. Can't stand to lose that work time.
LSASHI had good classes in the past. I'm thinking about rejoining the group now that one of my old nemeses is not in charge there. Problem is they often have their seminars off in far flung locales. Maybe there'll be on closer to civilization this year.

Aaron,
I posted some information about their (Lone Star ASHI) Spring Conference - May 2-3. It will be in Montgomery this year. Due West of Conroe.
It's another thread in this section.

Re: TAREI Seminar / San Antonio
Rick,
I may go. I need to look into what classes are being offered (don't know squat about it right now). If most are the same-ole, same-ole... I'll probably just get'em locally (again).

Nolan:
That's about 214.57 miles too far away according to Yahoo maps . . .
Thanks,

Re: TAREI Seminar / San Antonio
I'm now considering SA. I was going to a class in Houston this weekend, but, just was informed that it is a class I already took and can't get credit from TREC for it. The room rates were doubled anyway - NCAA sweet 16 is in town - so its ok.

Re: TAREI Seminar / San Antonio
Richard,
One 2-day track is on Septic tank inspections.
That ought to be an interesting one.

Re: TAREI Seminar / San Antonio
I registered for the SA event. Not the septic thingy. I don't touch 'em - don't want to and don't want anybody to have any documentation that I know anything about them. Hope to see you there. I'll be the young handsome one!!!
