wash water drained into sump
It is legal to drain your wash water into a open sump pump, I thought wash water would make it grey water ,which I thought had to be covered and vented. thanks for any help

Re: wash water drained into sump
In the older homes in Illinois they had the sump pumps, pump into the sanitary sewer system, so they let the laundry water drain into the sump pit. Now most cities, townships, have required the sump pit to discharge outside, which requires the washing machine discharge to stop going into the sump pit. What we do to fix the issue is install a Hydromatic 118 System Hydromatic Pump and discharge the washing machine into it. It does need to be properly vented too.
