Default washer draining into sump pit

The house in question has a clothes washer. The drain line for this washer runs into an open sump pit. The sump pump then lifts the gray water up to the main sewer waste line. Can I apply the below code from IRC to back a position that the installation is wrong?

No black water draining into the pit, only gray.

    P3007.2
Building drains below sewer (building subdrains).
Building drains which cannot be discharged to the sewer by gravity flow shall be discharged into a tightly covered and vented sump from which the contents shall be lifted and discharged into the building gravity drainage system by automatic pumping equipment.

I believe you have an unassailable position.

That's why they make laundry pumps.

OK cool. i just wanted to make sure that the language was intended to cover all drain types, gray, black...whatever.

    Thanks.
