Default Gas Line? You don't need no stinkin gas line

Why in the world would anybody use a gas line connector on a Water Heater?
You use a water line connector of course.....and those shut off valves aren't really necessary either.

Sometimes I really get pi$$ed off at Handyman work done for old folks.

Gee, all these years I've thrown money away on expensive gas connectors, with this method I could cut my price by 75%. Have any other good ideas?
