Thread: Glued Copper Pipes?

A fellow inspector found copper water pipes glued, possibly with clear epoxy, instead of soldered. Is this an acceptable repair? Does anyone know what the glue is that is approved for this? Thanks a lot for your help!

A. JFC Retail is not NSF certified, however JFC is certified safe by WRAS (Water Standards Board) for the United Kingdom, Austrailian Standards AS/NZS 4020:2002, and the Japan Water Commission.
Q. Does JFC Retail meet plumbing codes?


A. Yes! JFC Retail EXCEEDS ALL PLUMBING CODE REQUIREMENTS. However, JFC Retail is new technology, and all plumbing codes specifically call for “hot soldering�. Demonstrate JFC Retail to plumbing inspectors and request a variance to cover the new technology that does not include hot soldering.

It does not meet plumbing code. period. There is a product by Mueller Industries, but you have to use their fittings which have a port for the epoxy to be pumped into. But most codes do not approve these either. Mueller Industries - Adhesive Joint Copper Fittings
