Default Not Sure what this is

I believe this is some type of flood control system (Not really sure) found it in the basement of a 1920 home in Elmwood Park IL. If any body can tell me what this is use for, would be great. Not sure what if anything I should be checking on this unit.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

Try to take a few pictures from different vantage points. An establishing shot from farther away can help to set the stage for the close-up. Then the details become more relevant.

It looks like a grease trap. What did the writing on the top say?

As in installer and a person that services 1000's of flood controls in the northern Illinois, its hard to tell from the picture you posted. A wider angle picture showing more of the room and the pit, and a few of the covers themselves would be a huge help.

Do the covers come off easily? If so picture of the insides would help as well. It almost looks like a unit by EverReady. If it is an EveReady system there will be a electrical box near by.

    Hi Fidel
My first guess would be a two chamber sump system to filter the sludge.

If you go back I would be happy to give you a hand since I am near Elmwood park.

Wish I could read the print in your pic but with two plugs I am guessing one is for the switch and one for the pump.

You could have tested it by plugging in the outer plug to the outlet directly in that case.

Thank you for the offer to come with me. Put inspection is done. Told my client to check with city. The cover has the following info" transmission Montgomery Co. Basement Flood control. There are 2 wire connected to an outlet. can really see the side or what this system is hook up to. ie pipes etc.
because the pit is the same size as the unit. There is 1 large nut in the middle of the unit. Maybe, this is the way its service by taking off the cover.

Also, checked on the web for this company. Nothing found.

    Thanks again for your help.

Hi Ron, Thanks for your help. There are 2 wires connected to an outlet. The cover has a large 3/4 nut in the middle of the cover. The following is on the cover plate. "Transmission Montgomery Co Basement flood control" . Sorry I couldn't get a better picture.
Thank you again for your help.
