    Default TCNA and WEBER

    Hi guys,

    Two questions:

This TCNA handbook, is it copyrighted material? It possible to get a pdf version for free (2016 if possible). Any links?

In the US, is it possible to install tiles over plywood WITHOUT involving backerboard? Please check the following link of WEBER Britain for an example of it, it is ok there with a minimum 1/4" very elastic layer of some compound. Link has details:

    http://www.netweber.co.uk/tile-fixin...onto-wood.html

Any similar solution for the US? (Approved by codes of course)

    Thanks!))

My first question is: Why would you even consider doing so?

    There could be:
    - moisture issues
    - flexing/cracking issues
    - plywood in contact with cementitious thin set issues (unless a floor mastic was used)
    - and other likely issues (such as that shaky earth thing out in CA)

No real research, but they are selling it and not offering it free so I would think that it is copyrighted.2016 TCNA Handbook for Ceramic, Glass, and Stone Tile Installation
"""Note: Digital copies are protected with Digital Rights Management (DRM) software and will have a visible watermark when printed. The purchase and use of digital copies will require the installation of software and a license (both provided by TCNA). The licenses have a one-time use and can only be installed on one computer (tablets are not supported at this time). Want more information regarding DRM software?"""

I personally would not put tile over plywood,,,, but I have seen it done without problems. One application was in a 14x16 room with a recessed 6 person hot tun/whirlpool over a crawl space with a concrete floor.

The floor was a doubled up 3/4 - 5ply T&G that mastic was applied directly to the wood and it worked. I think that the two 4x8 sheets had also been glued together.

    Mr Sorrells,

Thank you very much for your thoughts. I think I remember DRM softwares, some time ago I bought a CSA standard and when I tried to copy some sections to print, to read and take notes and questions on the sides of the papers for our discussions with engineers, the print out came with all lines mixed up.. I kindly explained them my need and they gave me a good one, and I am not sharing it with anyone))

I already read like 25 of them, from UL, from IEC and from CSA, and I am just tired of paying for them!!!! I just tried my chances )))

    Mr Peck,

Thank you very much for your points, they are very proper. The weber's link was so promising, so I tried to get rid of the extra weight and job. But as I said, your points are very proper))
