Default Line coming from drain at water heater.....

    Has anybody seen this.
I am guessing it is part of a circulating system or something. Has a circulating pump but have never seen one coming from the drain cock. Down the line to the right about 2' is the pump, and it is going to the other side of the attic and down the wall. but I cant figure out where it actually goes. On that side of the house there is the master bath upstairs and kitchen on 1st. Is this out of plumbing code?

That is pretty routine here for a circulating pump on the hot water. Should be a check valve, which may be just to the right of the valve.

They also sometimes tie in at the cold water input here, seems about 50/50.

Interesting. I always specify that the recirculating line is connected to the cold water inlet to the heater. I wonder if having the line connected to the drain keeps the solids suspended better and results in less tank sediment? Pure speculation.

In a house I did today, found something similar to this....anyone want to say anything other than what's already been said? The pipe disappeared into a maze of piping in the ceiling and the above finished drywall, so tracing it was not an option.

I suspect from ... (this should throw the following off) a finished door ... the following: an unfinished looking floor ... and no pan under the water heater.

A pan under the water heater is not just an attic thing - but I suspect it was the 'missing pan' which caught Robert's eye.

    Attic?

    Not in attic?

The correct answer is ... "It depends."

WHICH water heater question is being referred to?

The latest answers were, I thought, referring to the latest question.

I concur, Jerry. 2 images in the thread.

I opened my Surface Pro 4 and replied based upon the information, what little I could see, and unwittingly entered the thread based upon too little information.

It still left/leaves one wondering, if the gas fired WH is correctly installed, according to the manufacturer's installation instructions, clearances, and municipal standards.

Roy, I seldom/rarely see you subordinating like the hand full of mis/ill advised members on a association web site I will refrain for naming/mentioning out of the deepest respect for others/all.

I used my mobile phone to monitor I/N site. I have seen other members express. the visually or size of the screen limits the amount of information one can consume and address adequately. Or at least it does for me...

I am sure/certain you have great answers to offer.
Looking forward to reading them posted on Inspection/News/IN.
    Best.
