Re: interesting drain...
You lucky dog. You must have had a great day under there. Is that rubber, or plastic. I've never seen one. Obviously it dosen't work very well.

Speaking of creative uses for plumbing boots....
If you have the November 2007 issue of Family Handyman magazine, check out the article on page 18. They are showing Joe Homeowner how to use a rubber plumbing boot to flash around pipes & wires where they penetrate the exterior siding. The method involves taking the boot, trimming it, face gluing it to the siding with silicone caulk, and then pumping it full of foam-in-a-can.

Brandon,
"Family Handyman Magazine"? You're joking, I hope.

Re: interesting drain...
I should have written that article for "Handy whatever magizine", and charged a few bucks for it.
Although I hate to admit it, I've actually done that on a rental property with a serious mouse problem.

Re: interesting drain...
Places like Lowes and Home Depot sell those. They're all rubber, like the "fernco" brand connectors with two clamps at either end. However instead of just couplings, they make them in everything -- 90's, 45's, tees, wyes, etc.
That looks like someone used one of those bands over a piece of pipe that was smaller than the hub of the rubber fitting, hence the obviously deformed shape and leaking. (Would you approve a 4" Fernco band to connect a 4" pipe to a 2" pipe?)
