Jim,

There's some severe Rust on the Tee and vertical pipe sections behind that Goose Neck.

The one in the fore ground looks painted ( to hide rust?) hidden rust scales? It's getting them bumps from somewhere.

Seen loads of 'em in houses with galvanized water pipes. Always used to jog around the other pipe.

Re: pipe fitting
Those and many others. It is surprising to see what efforts were made to make mechanical installations neat and clean in the past. Another lost behavioral trait. The metal support on the CPVC line in the background is a NO-NO.

Why?

Metal straps are used, and approved for use, on CPVC fire sprinkler piping.

Re: pipe fitting
Think about that for a minute: how often are sprinkler pipes used? How often are CPVC sprinkler pipes going to be used?

All piping, regardless of the material, expands and contracts during use, due to both temperature and pressure changes. This expansion and contraction produces movement of the pipe. With plastic pipe, this movement is more pronounced. So, when plastic pipe moves back and forth, like a saw, on a metal pipe hanger, what do you suppose is going to happen, eventually?

"The metal support on the CPVC line in the background is a NO-NO."

"Think about that for a minute:" where is your supporting documentation to the "NO-NO" part?

Code?

Manufacturer's installation instructions?

What / where?

I've never seen one of those in the plumbing isle at the hardware store....
