How things are made
Just watched the How Things Are Made TV show and they showed how water heaters are manufactured.

Do you know how they test the gas ones for gas leakage in the factory?

They connect the gas to the valve, turn the knob to light the pilot, then the burner, then they take an unlit torch and hold it to the gas flame, lighting the torch, then they move the flame of the torch around the gas control. No flame flaring out or explosion and it is okay - NOT KIDDING.

Yep, and like groups test our cars, children's toys and pacemekers. Makes one feel all warm and fuzzy right? Anybody watch "Sicko" regarding our government's health care and you got to wonder, don't we deserve better?

Jerry,

I actually seen some old school plumbers take a lighter and do the same thing. They say that if gas is leaking you see the flame move.

Yeah right before the big flash.
