Hello,

I've been an inspector for about four years now, but I don't know much about pools. I'm missing out on inspections. Can anyone recommend an online class or a good place to attend training to do pool/spa inspections? Thanks

The best thing would be is to have one built in your backyard. You watch the whole process, then write it off your taxes as a continuing educational project.

Online classes in my opinion give you no real knowledge as actually found in the field.

ITA has a good course on pools and spas. Contact Mitch Sudy at ITA, if he's still there. I believe they still conduct classes in San Diego.

Or, if you're a member of CREIA the chapters occassionally have toolbox seminars geared for these inspections.

Aside from being a HI I also own a couple pool service companies out here and in AZ. The best way to get educated is to find a pool service /repair tech and ask if you can pay him to "ride along" with him for a few days and help. You will learn so much about pools and how they operate. Try to get a guy that does a lot of repairs, not just service. You'll see, pools are simple.
