Swimming Pool Certifications
This may be a crazy question.
But, are there any special certifications required for inspecting swimming pools?
I have had a few request for them but am not sure if my HI cert will cover it.

Thanks for any and all responses.
Kendall

Well, my first question to you would be do you know anything about swimming pools?

Home Inspector Certifications don't mean diddly squat, all of the ones we have now are done by the various membership associations to promote their own members. Pay your fee and you are certified!

To inspect pools you need to know about them. How they are built and the different types of pools. You need to know about the special electrical requirements that pools have. The list goes on and on.

If it was me I would find a good pool contractor and defer all pool inspection request to them. Then ask if you can tag along and shadow their inspection.

To answer your question; No you do not need a special certification, just the knowledge and skill set.

Re: Swimming Pool Certifications
Thanks for the response Scott.

I do have a pretty good knowledge of pools and there operation and a little knowledge on installation.
I also like your advice on tagging along with a contractor. Great ideal.

Thanks again,
Kendall

Re: Swimming Pool Certifications
Certification may depend on your state and the services you offer.

As far as I know inspection of residential pools are completed to State or Association SOP

Commercial, where you issue a Certified Inspection so the operator can open their doors for business is a very different story.

NSPF is probably the most recognized

Check with your state or AHJ

Re: Swimming Pool Certifications
I work with a pool contractor who checks for leaks on pools with a pressure test on the lines. In my opinion it is like referring to any other specialist if needed. He also gives his professional opinion on the other parts of the pool. I have helped him install pools plus have had a pool for over 20 years but a through pool inspection is outside the scope of a normal HI.
