"The new legislation, which went into effect December 14, 2006, mandates ASTM-certified pool alarms be installed on every new or structurally remodeled pool. New York is on the forefront of drowning prevention, representing one of only three states with a pool alarm law."

Florida has required those alarms for over 6 years now.
