gas dryer next to water heater in garage?
Hello, long time lurker - gleaning from your knowledge, thanks!
My question -
Just purchased a '50's era CA home. There is a gas water heater (on a 20" stand) next to a gas dryer.
Is this permissible?
Add. info:
Water heater vented through roof.
Dryer vented 12 ft over to outside wall.
It's a detached generous 2 car garage with a guest qtrs that has a 1.5 bath. on the other side of a double wall.
The full layout along this wall is:
Water heater-Dryer-Washer-Laundry Tub
Thanks again.

Hello Long Time Lurker,
If the question is can 2 Gas Appliances next to each other be in a garage then Yes they can.
The Water Heater is elevated off the floor to minimize the accidental ignition of gas gas fumes along the floor.
Sound like the gas dryer needs to be elevated as well.

Re: gas dryer next to water heater in garage?
Thanks for your response, that was exactly what I meant!
A further question - the dryer vent is not connected. There is a vent connection 12ft away on a vertical exterior wall. Is it permissible to drill a hole in the stand the water heater sits on and run an exhaust line underneath the water heater? (assuming it doesn't compromise the structure, of course.)
Perhaps the previous owners just draped an accordion line across the floor around the water heater stand - I would like to use hard tin for the pipe, though. Any thoughts?
And thanks again.

Re: gas dryer next to water heater in garage?
excellent! thank you very much.
And my final question...
Can the gas dryer and a washing machine share the same electrical outlet?
It's a grounded gfci on a 20amp breaker I believe.
Thanks again I really do appreciate it. We bought it as a fixer upper....been mostly fixer so far. We thought it was well inspected upon purchase, but there have been a number of surprises that we did not catch. So this is my encouragement to lurkers to find a good rec' form this site before purchase!

Re: gas dryer next to water heater in garage?
Technically the ignition source in the dryer needs to be 18" above the floor. At least that is how I interpret the rule. Water heaters have the ignition source at the base so they need to be raised. The new Flame-Guard water heaters are allowed to be set right on the floor. Water heaters need to be earthquake strapped to the wall in California.
What make and model is the dryer?
