What is Base and Cap Flashing as referred to in the IRC section R905.2.8.1
Is Base Flashing the same thing as Drip Edge ?
Thanks

Re: Base and Cap Flashing ?
Base and cap flashing is flashing and counter flashing.
base flashing =

The base flashing is placed on the roof surface and nailed to it with the upright leg of the flashing held against the wall sheathing.
cap flashing =

The cap flashing has its upper upright leg placed against the wall sheathing and is slid down the wall so that the lower downright leg is over the upright leg of the base flashing, the upper upright leg of the cap flashing is nailed to the wall sheathing while the lower downright leg is not nailed to the base flashing. This allows for movement between the roof and wall and the base flashing and the cap flashing while maintaining a weather-resistant flashing joint.

(hard to draw with lines from the keyboard)
The base flashing is the base flashing. The cap flashing is the counter flashing.

Oh...I've always referred to the "cap" flashing as counter flashing.
