Every manufacturer should have detailed instructions as to how their product should be installed. Google and you will find. This APA guide is nicely illustrated.

The best guide it to follow the instructions with diagrams and pictures are printed on the back of every package of roofing...& the manufacturers also have printed sheets, usually available at the supply outlet...lumberyard, etc.
