    Default Spaced sheathing?

What are the types or what is the type of shingles that can't be used on spaced sheathing? I always assumed it was asphalt but i read on the nacho site that anything spaced more the 1/4 inch can be cause for problems.

    Whats NACHO?

I usually refer to skip sheathing and roof covering.

Arron, what association you from and do you have a nic-name for it? They must have the answer.

Sorry for improperly spelling your name.
    Excuse me.

You will fit in well at INACHI.
Very good education by the way.

    Wishing you much success.

    Which code?
    Class A, B or C roofing?

It helps is you ask a clear question.

IBC 1507.9.1 Deck requirements. Wood shakes shall only be used on solid or spaced sheathing. Where spaced sheathing is used,
sheathing boards shall not be less than 1-inch by 4-inch (25 mm by 102 mm) nominal dimensions and shall be spaced on centers equal to the weather exposure to coincide with the placement of fasteners. Where 1-inch by 4-inch (25 mm by 102 mm) spaced sheathing is installed at 10 inches (254 mm) o.c., additional 1-inch by 4-inch (25 mm by 102 mm) boards shall be installed between the sheathing boards.

    Hope that helps.

thanks I basically wrote down every question I could remember that i didn't know the answer to when I left the testing center. There was a bunch I couldn't find online and decided to join a forum and see if I could get some answers. This is why my questions seem vague and incomplete because it was a lot of questions all from memory after I got home. I just remember one of them said "Which type of shingle can you not use spaced sheething with" asphalt, slate, cement fiber, and wood I think. Thanks for your input

I highly doubt you lack intelligence.
You asked a good question but you did upset my intelligence due to the fact that I am a member in good standing with InterNACHI not NACHO.

I will defend my 5 associations vigorously.

May I recommend you join an organization.
Once you have the basics you can become more involved because the education never stops.

Lots of fun even if you do not start a business.

Sorry if you got upset. Try not to.

You are trying to become a home inspector and I congratulate you and wish you much success.

Yes, testing can be nerve racking.

Join an association. InterNACHI is very inexpensive.
After Aaron, try to find a mentor.

Best of luck and never ever call yourself what you just did here, please.
You are trying to better yourself and that certainly something to be proud of.

    Aaron,

If that is representative of the question, then you cannot use asphalt/composition on spaced/skip sheathing. Unless there was an "all of the above".

Around here, concrete tile could be installed on skip sheathing up until about 25 years or so ago. I can't remember when it changed. Anyway, now plywood or OSB is typically used along with a felt underlayment.

Wood shake (when allowed) is generally installed on skip, but my local jurisdiction required plywood for a while (I think the reason was seismic, but can't remember for sure).

I rarely see slate or cement fiber around here, so I really don't know.

Looking at my post, it doesn't seem like I was much help.

I just ordered a book by Carson Dunlap I think it was called The Home Reference Book I heard good reviews about I was hoping to find the answers for some of these exam questions in there. Regardless thanks for your help
