Thread: Florida reroof code requirements

Did the 2001 code change in march of 2002 require the renailing of the roof decks or did that come after 2006? Here in good old Boy land it never seemed to hit the books for enforcement until Oct. of 2007. Appreciate your opinions regarding the issue, even more would appreciate a direct code reference. I know some of you guys have it.

It was a HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone - Miami-Dade and Broward counties) requirement prior to the 2001 Florida Building Code, and it was a HVHZ only requirement in the 2001 FBC, in the 2001 FBC w/2002 revisions, and in the 2001 FBC with 2003 revisions.

It was also only a HVHZ requirement in the 2004 FBC.

Without pulling out my replaced sheets, I do not know when it took effect, in the 2004 FBC w/2005 revisions, or the 2004 FBC w/2006 revisions. My 2004 FBC on CD (and in my computer) is only the original version, they never made updated CD revisions with the revisions to the code. However, the 2004 FBC w/2006 revisions took effect in Dec 2007, which fits your time line.

I believe Jerry is correct - the FBC 2006 revisions... are still just being enforced here. I've run into a several of the roofs replaced 2004-2005 that are not compliant. I wonder if they were letting it go as people were still getting the roofs done from 2004 hurricanes...!? Plus, many were done by homeowners and no inspection done...
