Asbestos roof shingles
What do asbestos roof shingles look like? Are there different types? Are they still made?

Re: Asbestos roof shingles
Asbestos single identification chart:

Asbestos Shingle Identification Photos, Also known as Transite Roof Tiles

Here in Chicago I see this pattern occasionally, you have to check all sides of all roofs, for example you may find it’s been left on garages when the main structure has been re-roofed:

TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a Tiny URL
http://www.customtileroofing.com/images2/Asbestos_Transite_Tiles/BELGIUM%20ETERNIT%20FIELD%20SLATE%20AND%20RIDGE.jp g

One red flag to check further are shingles that overlap one other on one side:

I’ve also seen this type of Transite roofing, usually on shed roofs:

And this type, which mimics slate:

And also faux wood:

The bottom line is that asbestos can look,
superficially
at least, like just about any other kind of shingle roofing.
