A recent observation on a home in Houston. Owner reported they just had Direct TV installed a month ago.

I wonder if this guy could get them to fix it. This is something that appears to have been intentional. I dont know how else you could explain it. Surely they arent that stupid.

It's hard to tell what it is that you are pointing out, imp_John. Is that a bolt or a screw through the co-ax cable? Or are you pointing out the damage to the roof caused by mounting the tripod to the roof?

In my experience, 90% of these installers do not ground the satellite dish. Many thanks to Mike Holt for education and visuals.

Looks like they lost some granules on those shingles with the installation of the dish.

Sorry guys. I thought it was evident in the photo. They drilled a hole in the roof and didnt put anything in it, or over it. I dont see how it could have been a mistake in mounting the dish bracket. They are about 6" away from the bracket. The hole is probably 3/8" dia. Look closely at the 1st photo (showing bracket for reference) then look at the 2nd photo (illustrating the hole).

You would think they could at least put some sealant or a screw and sealant.

Are you kidding? Around here ROOFERS don't caulk the nail holes when they pull their toe boards. They don't even respect their own work. Why should anybody else?

John,

You saw it, you have the images ... I'm sure you put 'em in the report with a red circle around the hole and base mounting points for the tripod ... all need to be sealed and caulked to minimize water intrusion to roof deck and attic space and beyond.

Do you think it would be better to go ahead and install a wood screw into the hole and then siliconeroofing sealant/ over it?

Seems like a belt and suspenders approach, but I think it would be better than just trying to seal over it.

No. Lift shingle tap, slide in a piece of galv. tin over the hole, apply sealant on top of tin, press tab into sealant.
