Chimney flashing
There was no step flashing or counter flashing I could see. Besides the exposed nail heads, could this chimney be correctly flashed even though the flashing is not visible?

Re: Chimney flashing
Is it flashed... looks like it on both the side (shown) and the front section.

Is is done right, probably not. The nail heads (for sure) should be sealed with a roofing sealant.

Re: Chimney flashing
Shouldn't there be a weep screed to stop the stucco above the shingles?

Re: Chimney flashing
Fritz,

My approach - if I don't see what I'm suppose to see, I write as such and suggest it be evaluated. I do the same when I find globs of caulk somewhere on the roof - it shouldn't be there if everything was done right.

No way would I even touch the question - "yea, but will it leak?"

Eric,

Don't be such a patsy, you know the answer to that question is always:

"Only when it rains."

Re: Chimney flashing
Would like to see the whole chimney but that doesn't cut it around here. Stucco to the shingles laves no room for replacement or repair. Also it appears the stucco installer cut the ear off on the corner.

Way we do it is we pre-flash the wall with counter held up off the roof 1" so the step flashing can be slid up under it. Then barriers go over the pre-flash. which has about 1/2" gap off the surface substrate. Siding installers go first then roofers when they are finished. Saves mess on the finished roof that way.

Heck with it, this picture will explain.................
